Global Thread Standards Supported

Hydraulic systems across the world use a wide array of thread types. At Carlton Hydraulics, we stock adaptors in multiple international thread standards, including:

United States

• NPT (National Pipe Tapered): Tapered thread widely used in fluid power systems.
• NPSM (National Pipe Straight Mechanical): Parallel thread sealing with a 30° chamfer. Shares the same dimensions as NPT.
• SAE ORB (O-Ring Boss): UNF thread with an O-ring seal on the hex shoulder.
• SAE JIC 37° (Joint Industry Council): UNF thread sealed via a 37° cone. Interchangeable with AN (Army/Navy) fittings.
• SAE 45°: Similar to JIC (up to -10 size) but sealed with a 45° cone.
• SAE ORFS (O-Ring Face Seal): UNF parallel thread with a built-in O-ring on the flat face of the male part.
• SAE Inverted Flare: UNF thread sealing via a 45° convex seat on the male side.

Germany

• DIN 7631 Series (Metric 60° Cone): Parallel metric thread using a 60° sealing cone. Includes less common sizes such as M27x2 and M33x2.
• DIN 3902, DIN 2353 Series (Metric LL, L, and S Series): 24° sealing chamfer and recessed counterbore matched to tube OD sizes (e.g., 6L, 8L, 6S). Often used with nut and olives as compression fittings. (See Tube and Compression Fittings for more.)

France

• French Metric (Millimetrique & GAZ Series): Similar to German DIN 3902 fittings. Uses 24° sealing chamfer and recessed counterbores. "Millimetrique" uses Metric whole numbers; "GAZ" uses Metric fractional tube sizes like 13.25mm or 21.25mm. Includes less common threads such as M27x1.5, M33x1.5, and M39x1.5.

United Kingdom

• BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel): Parallel thread sealed with a 60° chamfer. Similar to NPSM but with a different thread angle.
• BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered): Tapered thread similar to NPT, but with slight variations in thread form and angle.

Japan

• JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard): Uses BSPP threads but seals with a concave cone, essentially the reverse of BSPP, and can be referred to as ‘inverted BSP’. Functionally similar to JIC.
• JIS Komatsu: Found exclusively on Komatsu machinery. Similar to JIS but uses Metricthreads instead of BSPP.
